The father of her Brian was a veterinarian for horses who committed suicide when Bea was only three years old though she was not told what happened to him until she turned thirteen. As a way to honor the man she loved, Bea chose the stage name Bea and in 2017, she wrote an article on suicides that affected the family she was raised by for The Guardian. Bea's mother Helen She is a jockey-trainer and former pro jockey, was the one responsible for raising her as well as Sinead. The family was awed by horses, race meetings and the racing industry. Bea was a guide for her family's involvement at the Irish National Stud in her beginning years. She knew, however that it wasn't what she wanted to pursue for a living and that she was more interested in to perform.
